Madeleine’s pacifier – or bah bah as she has lovingly named it, has been a love hate relationship with her parents. She was given the pacifier right in the hospital when she was born and used it every time she slept, usually only waking when the paci would dislodge from her mouth. It was a happy day when she was able to put the paci in her mouth all by herself. I swore to myself that I would have her be rid of it at 6 months, well, that didn’t happen. Soon a year passed and now it’s two years and the paci is still a fixture in our home. Her pediatrician initially wanted her to be weaned of it at two, but because of her dieting issues she suggested we focus on one demon at a time.
And of course then came Maine. I didn’t have the heart to take it away now when there would be so much upheaval in her little life, so now we’ll wait until we’re home to bid our final farewells. I’m not going to lie, it’s gonna be painful. Probably sadder for me than for her. It’s one of the last things to show that she’s still my baby; once it goes she’ll be my big girl.
She has to have several bah bahs to sleep with, one in the mouth and one in each hand. Then she’ll say, “Two bah bahs!”. We started loading her down with them when we started to be awoken at night with her saying, “Where my bah bah go?” and hunting for them at 3 am is not my idea of a good use of time.
We’ve sort of taken to learning some colors by her different colored bah bahs. She’ll hold one out for me and say, “Ont pink” (meaning “I want pink”).
But the latest and greatest trick is her whirly bird. She likes the MAM pacis which are completely symmetrical, so not one side is any different than the other. For some reason, she had gotten taken to flipping her bah bah with her hand, like it was better flavored that way – it was quite amusing. However, all the sudden one day she learned how to flip it without hands. I didn’t think much of it until I tried to do it myself – it’s nearly impossible! It’s quite the parlor trick, and I am such the proud mama (hee hee hee!)!
Flipping the bah bah with her hands…
Look Ma! No hands!

Wow that is quite a talent! I have never seen that before.
The bah bah flip is even funnier when you watch her do it on her own without being asked to flip it. She is such a silly girl!
I bet she'll be one of those girls that can tie a knot in a cherry stem in her mouth one of these days!
She is so funny!!!!!! Miss ya'll!
